In France you must already be able to receive e-invoices

Since 1 September 2026 every company, whatever its size, must be able to receive electronic invoices. If you are a small business, issuing them comes later. Here is what to do now.

The calendar

In force, 1 Sept 2026

  1. All companies must be able to receive e-invoices. Large and intermediate-sized companies (ETI) issue them.

  2. Medium-sized, small and micro-enterprises issue e-invoices and report their data to the administration.

The law lets a decree move this date, to 1 December 2027 at the latest.

Checked against the tax administration's documents on 8 October 2026.

What to do now

  1. Choose a receiving platform

Pick one from the official list: directly, or through your usual software, your accountant or your bank.

  2. Sign the formal agreement

The agreement (accord formel) appoints that platform to receive your invoices.

  3. The platform updates the directory

It updates your company's entry in the directory of recipients (annuaire). Until then, e-invoices cannot be delivered to you.

You can change platform at any time.

New mentions an invoice must carry

  • Your customer's SIREN number, when the customer is a company.
  • The delivery address of the goods, when it differs from the customer's address.
  • The category of the operation: goods only, services only, or both.
  • The mention « Option pour le paiement de la taxe d'après les débits », when the provider of a service chose that option.

For micro, small and medium-sized companies these apply from the day they must issue e-invoices: no later than 1 September 2027.
